Crews officially broke ground on a new project that will incorporate a historic fire station near Denver's Union Station.

A 12-story Hilton Garden Inn will incorporate the abandoned Hose Company No. 1 building at 20th Street and Chestnut Place, Denver7 reports. The building, erected in 1883 for the city's volunteer fire department, remained empty for years after having several other uses.

The high-rise hotel will include 233 guest rooms and the Hose Company No. 1 building will be renovated for use of a yet-to-be-announced restaurant.

Denver7 says construction completion is expected by January 2019.

Across the street sits Elan Union Station apartments, a King Soopers, Wells Fargo, and several other businesses.
