Extend The Olive Branch – Brian’s Blog

Nothing makes me more uncomfortable than knowing someone is upset with me. I always strive for peace and want to settle all disagreements immediately so they don't boil over and turn into more. I had a situation just the other day where I knew there was a bit of bad blood with me and another guy and wanted to try to smooth it over.

I decided I would extend and olive branch and reach out with a message on Facebook. I wrote that I had thought of him when I drove by his business and just wanted to say hi and let him know I had been thinking about him. I was hoping he would read it and maybe reach out and join me in moving on and healing the past. What I received was not what I was expecting. He took my olive branch and lit it on fire. I was hoping for peace but instead was laid into big time. I deleted the messages and him as a friend and moved on in my mind. I could comfortably go on knowing that I had at least tried.

If you have someone you have had a "situation" with, extend the olive branch. They may take it or they may burn it but at least you know you did what you could. Later on that day I got a call from that guy and he apologized for going off and all is now great. Be the bigger person. You'll be glad you did.
