An elderly man was rescued from a burning garage in west Fort Collins yesterday. The unidentified resident who was attempting to extinguish the fire was helped to escape by a home health care employee, a City of Fort Collins Utilities employee and a neighbor. Two of these people were evaluated on scene for minor smoke inhalation by PVH Emergency Services.

Poudre Fire Authority Firefighters were able to quickly control and extinguish the fire that had extended to the garage attic but not the living area of the residence.

Investigators determined the cause of the fire may have been a wood burning stove in the garage.
