Colorado Springs Police Officer Seeking PD Patches To Replace Son’s Burned Collection

The Black Forest Fire has done more damage in a week then we care to think about but when a fire destroys a home, the actual home is the last thing on someone’s mind.  Many things can be replaced, some can’t and some need help replacing memories and futures.

(Editors Note: Story was updated on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 2:55 PM to correct the relationship.)

This came to me via FB thanks to a good friend or a friend who happens to be a police officer himself and I thought it was a good thing to share with all my friends across this great country of ours.

As you all know, Colorado Springs is now dealing with it’s second catastrophic fire in as many years.  The current Black Forest Fire has consumed more than 500 homes and have killed two people.

One of the people that lost their homes is a Lt. on the Colorado Springs police department, Jeff Jensen. In 2006, his brother Jared Jensen, who was also an officer with the department, was killed in the line of duty. After Jared’s murder, his brother Jeff took his then five year old son, Kyle, to the LE Memorial in Washington, D.C. to honor his Uncle and it was there that Kyle met officers from all over the country and decided to start collecting patches from as many departments as he could to honor his Uncle.

Unfortunately that collection burned up in their home last week.

Many officers in the department would now like to see if they can get his patch collection back up to par. That is where you come in.

If you are a police officer, or know someone who is, please share this story with them. If you can find it in your heart, please send a patch from your Police Department.  It doesn’t matter where you are located; the further the better.

Please send your department patches to the attention of Adam Romine of the Colorado Springs Police Dept. 415 E. Pikes Peak Ave, Suite 200, Colorado Springs, CO 80903.
