american beautyToday the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released some good news in that many states are seeing reduced cases of childhood obesity. However, Colorado is one of the few states that saw an increase in it.

Before you freak out and put your kids on a diet, keep in mind we're still one of the fittest states in the country and have the second-best  percentage of childhood obesity according to this same report.

This map from the CDC shows the darkest shaded states are the ones where childhood obesity increased from 2008-2011.

You look at that map and it looks like bad news, but as I said before Colorado is still one of the fittest states on the county, and the statistics in this very report still show that Hawaii is the only state that has a lesser percentage of childhood obesity than Colorado. (Hawaii had 9.2% in 2011 while Colorado had 10%.) California and Puerto Rico came in at the bottom of the 2011 list at 16.6% and 17.9% respectively.

Recess anyone?
