It's Friday and I love Friday. I love them for a lot of things but I love them especially so I can share and honor a local hero that is or has served our country. This week's hero is fresh on the front but already a seasoned warrior in my eyes. Let's meet Corporal Shane Walter who was nominated by his mother Lynn and wife Courtney.

Corporal Shane Walter calls Windsor home with his wife Courtney holding down the fort while he does his part in helping to clean up the Afghanistan sandbox.

Shane and Courtney Walter

Originally from Wyoming where he was born, Corporal Walter moved to Greeley area at the age of 7 with and 2 sisters and 3 brothers; one being a twin.  It is a well documented fact the family informs me that they used that to their advantage more than once as only twins having fun can do.

Corporal Walter was active in 4H, competed very successfully in archery, and went to high school at Union Colony High School in Greeley but played football at Greeley Central his senior season.  He was also very active in the Civil Air Patrol where he earned the Mitchel Award for his leadership and also served as a Platte Valley Volunteer Fireman for 5 years.

Corporal Walter is a part of a specialized team trying to get the Afghanistan people to see the USA in a positive light! Amongst all of his duties he always makes it a point to hand out snacks and beef jerky to school children.

Corporal Shane Walter

Corporal Walter enlisted 2 years ago and is expected home from Afghanistan in July, 2013 but only two months away from earning SGT stripes so he will be coming home one rank higher.

Thank You Soldier - U.S. Army Corporal Shane Walter/Greeley CO
