I am so lucky to be married because I could not get a date in today’s world. I wouldn’t even know how to start. I know that a lot of people are using technology to find their perfect match. Dating and singles sights have become very popular. In fact I was reading recently where 22% of relationships today started out with an online meeting through one of these sights. It is now the second most popular way to meet a mate. Through family and friends is still the number one way people are hooked up.

Now I have no problem with computer dating services. I think they are a great way to get out there and meet people but I do have some concerns. When you put your profile up on one of the sights you will put in info about you and your likes and interests and then they will match you with people of similar tastes and interests. I understand this method but I think it lends itself to you dating people who are just like you. Do you really want to hang out with YOU all the time? I think so many great relationships happen when 2 very different people hook up.

My wife and I have very little in common but have been married for 25 years. I love music, sports, movies and enjoying home. My wife loves to travel, doesn’t like sports and loves to go out yet we still enjoy each other. If you were to put our profiles in one of those services, we would be the last 2 people you would expect to be together. Todd and I don’t not have much in common either but have been together for about 25 years as well. I believe that the great couples are the ones where one person is strong in areas where the other is weak and together make a big, strong unit.

If you are single and looking for that perfect match, be careful, the perfect one for you may be the exact opposite of what you are looking for.
