Animal Control Suspended, Other Services Delayed in Weld County
Staffing shortages in the Weld County Sheriff's Office will result in suspensions of some services and calls for other services could be delayed based on a case-by-case basis.
The Staffing shortages are causing suspensions of services and delays of others in Weld County. on Monday, March 18 stating there will be a temporary suspension of Animal Control Services in the community.
Calls for service from the Weld County Sheriff's Office
In addition to the temporary suspension of Animal Control Services in Weld County, calls for service by the Weld County Sheriff's Office will be serviced based on a case-by-case assessment. Responses from the Weld County Sheriff's Office will be considered based on the severity of the crime being reported and resources available at the time.
According to the Weld County Sheriff's Office, the changes are in place to prioritize keeping the Weld County Jail operational according to Weld County Sheriff Reams. This is due to an ongoing staffing shortage at the Weld County Jail. Weld County Sheriff's Office employees have been temporarily relocated out of their current roles and transferred to help alleviate the shortages at the Weld County Jail.
Other issues attributed to the staffing shortage at the Weld County Jail include changes in state laws involving law enforcement, a general workforce shortage, lack of funding for hiring and retaining sheriff's office employees, and more.
This decision to change our operations and how we serve our community is not something the administrative staff took lightly. It is a sincere desire for the sheriff’s office administration to return to normal operations as soon as the Weld County jail is fully staffed.
