It seems to me that I heard we'd have our troops back by the end of the year and that was three (3) years ago. Thousands are obviously still deployed so American Military Family, twice a year, rounds up volunteers here at home and sends care packages to troops overseas and you can help this Saturday, June 29th.

The "Care Package Party" will be this Saturday between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM in Golden at the VFW Post 4171 located at 15625 W 10th Ave.  I am personally going to try and get down there myself and I hope you too will consider it.  If you can't make it, perhaps you could find a few extra dollars deep in your heart somewhere and make a donation to help with postage to get these care packages thousands of miles away...it's not free.

If you can come down for even just a few minutes to drop off some items that would be fantastic.  Anything you can think of that is small, won't spoil etc.  What small comfort would you want your son, daughter or yourself to have while buried in a sandbox.  Can you imagine a world without coffee for example?  Here are a few good ideas:

  • Travel size wet wipes, Q-Tips and tooth paste
  • Coffee, sugar and powdered creamer packets
  • Canned tuna, chicken and can openers
  • Batteries
  • Toothbrushes
  • Beef Jerky
  • Peanuts and shelled sunflower seeds
  • Dried fruits and trail mix
  • Hard shelled candies
  • DVD's, card games, hand held games etc.
  • Flip Flops, ear buds etc.
  • Kool-Aid, lemonade, cherry etc. drink packets

As I mentioned earlier, you can also help and support this great cause with a monetary donation. Just visit the American Military Family website (click here) and "git r done" through their secure site, I just did, and you'll be part of many by just acting as one person. If you'd like to send a check instead please send it to American Military Family Inc., P.O. Box 1101 Brighton, CO 80601.

This Saturday, starting at 2:00 PM in Golden a the VFW Post 4171.  Please help by stopping by to help package, drop off a bag of goodies or by making a monetary donation.  It's just another fantastic way to support our troops, no matter what side of the political fence you lean on; we're all in this together till they all come home.

For more information please contact Dawn Medford (dawn@amf100.org) and make sure to visit their website for all the other fun and beneficial events they do throughout the year.
