I always have said I was born in the wrong generation. I know, I know, women have more opportunity now, but I'm just saying I like the idea of big dresses, cars with fins and men who open the doors to them for you, OK?

This Saturday, October 17, the Loveland Elks Lodge at 103 4th Street is hosting a 1950s/'60s dance, open to the public (with purchase of ticket).

According to my grandparents, there was once a simpler time, when people didn't spend Saturday nights 'binge watching' or Facebooking. That's just what I hear, though.

Actually, my favorite family photos are the ones of my grandparents back in the 1950s when they would go out to formals together. There is something so romantic about that era that I wish my generation could learn from; getting dressed up for each other, picking each other up at the door and calling on the phone just to talk.

I think I may just lace up my dancing shoes and give it a whirl.
