I am proud to have grown up in North Dakota and Minnesota. I love my homeland as much as I love my home in Colorado. Growing up in the mid-west we had many things that people from here have never heard of. We had lots of pot luck dinners featuring mystery salads and hot dishes that no one from around here would understand. Unless you grew up where I did, you do not know the power of and multitude of uses for cream of chicken soup or lefse and lutefisk or the warming sensation of snowshoe grog. There were many things I was unaware of until I moved to Colorado as well.

This state has many things that this North Dakota boy had never experienced before moving to our fine state Here are a few things I had no idea about until moving here.

Rocky Mountain Oysters- We ate all the other parts but never once thought of eating THOSE things. It took me about ten years of living here before I could find the nerve to fill my mouth with animal testicles but they are delicious and I am now a huge fan. Don't judge me over my love of animal testicles.

Breakfast Burritos- We didn't really even have tortillas, we had lefse, so rolling up a tortilla with a bunch of stuff in it was foreign to me.

Green Chili- We had chili. It was brown and had beans and meat in it. What the heck was this runny stuff with little seeds in it that made my nose run? I thought the tortillas they served with it were to wipe your runny nose.

Altitude- We didn't have that in the flat land of North Dakota. I had to learn that one beer here equals 4 there.

Poudre- The definition of that word where I came from had nothing to do with a river or canyon. That one still makes me giggle.
