Two workers were killed and 20 others were injured Sunday in a mining accident near the southwestern Colorado town of Ouray.

The Ouray County sheriff’s office was called to the Revenue-Virginius mine at about 7:20 a.m. The miners were confirmed dead Sunday afternoon.

The two workers who were killed have been identified as Nick Cappanno of Montrose and Rick Williams of Durango. The cause of death has been ruled carbon monoxide poisoning. 20 people were taken to area hospitals, and all but two have been treated and released.

Ouray is located in the mountains of Southwestern Colorado on US Hwy 550, 70 miles north of Durango and 98 miles south of Grand Junction.
