Fort Collins Utilities are transitioning Time-of-Day pricing in October of 2018, so you'll pay higher rates on electricity during certain hours of the day.

With Time-of-Day pricing, you will have two different prices on electricity rates. 'Peak hours' will run higher, and 'off peak' hours will cost less. You follow? OK, here's how the City of Fort Collins lays it out:

October through April, Monday through Friday, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. you will pay three times higher rates than the other hours of the day.

May through September, Monday through Friday, 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., you will pay three times higher rates than the other hours of the day.

Why the change? The City of Fort Collins explains that there are a couple different reasons, including price, stating that as 'electric use increases during on-peak times, so do the costs to produce and distribute it,' and that Time-of-Day pricing typically results in consumers using less electricity.
