When will the roads be cleared? Are residential parking lots next? Do I need to shovel my sidewalk right now?

These are all questions I heard this morning in my apartment complex parking lot from residents wondering how to get their cars out of the snow. My neighbors struggled to even walk down the sidewalks with their dogs, which begged the question: when can we expect this snow to be removed?

First of all, according to CDOT, you have a responsibility as a homeowner for some of it. On their website, the department states:

Residents are responsible for clearing driveways and sidewalks within 24 hours after a snowstorm to allow safe use by pedestrians. This is particularly important along school pedestrian routes to prevent children from having to walk in the street.

However, CDOT urges you NOT to push snow into the street— that is prohibited.

As for plows, for Fort Collins specifically, the City urged residents on Facebook that they'd been plowing all day and night, but to give them patience with residential areas. In a post, the city said:

The City will be plowing residential streets - but due to the volume and weight of snow, it will require bringing in extra, specialized equipment to ensure this does not also block driveways.

You can even track the location of Fort Collins snowplows right here.

Be patient, Fort Collins...and stay inside until those roads are cleared.
