TikTok Will Likely Be Banned in Colorado, Here’s When
Social media is constantly changing and evolving for us in Colorado. Throughout the years we have seen various social media platforms come and go.
Do you remember MySpace? Do you remember Vine? What about Friendster?
Social media apps and outlets are either sold or taken down due to a lack of users and engagement. One social media outlet is possibly on its way out even though it is extremely popular.
TikTok Is Huge in Colorado
There are roughly 150 million people in America who use the popular app TikTok. I am one of them.
TikTok started becoming popular during the pandemic and the new app was an exciting escape from Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and X.
TikTok is likely to be taken off of cell phones soon in Colorado.
Why TikTok Could Be Taken Way
TikTok is becoming an international issue. A company with Chinese ties, Bytedance, owns TikTok. Due to the ownership, America has concerns about where American data is going, where it is being collected, and how the content and data will be used.
Due to these concerns, there is a bill in Congress that would force ByteDance, the ownership company, to sell their operation. If they do not do so, TikTok will be banned on all devices in August 2024.
TikTok's Impact on Colorado
TikTok has been a phenomenal resource for discovering new businesses and experiences in Colorado. I have found countless restaurants, secret nature spots, and hidden gems I would not have known about.
If you have used TikTok I am sure you have had a similar experience. Instagram does a similar service, but with all of the algorithm hoops users have to jump through, it is not as authentic of an experience as TikTok is.
Although TikTok is fun and informative at times, it is valid to look into these privacy concerns. We need to know where our information is going and how it will be used.
