After living underneath an EDM DJ for the past year, I consider myself an expert at this point.

In 2018, I moved into a beautiful, newly-renovated apartment complex. It was a little more expensive than my last place, but I felt amazing: I was working hard to support the independent life I had always wanted, and the new apartment was a reflection of that. I'd also just moved after a difficult breakup, so this new place felt like a new beginning. Then, the bassline started.

The amazing nurse who'd lived above me before moved out, and an EDM DJ moved in. The guy was friendly, but every night I'd hear the pulsing bass of club music while I was trying to enjoy my dinner and watch Friends. I didn't know what to do: I worked hard to pay for an apartment I couldn't stand spending time in because of my upstairs neighbor. It felt like a waste of money. Plus, I didn't have anywhere else to go.

In the past year, dealing with my neighbor has had its ups and downs and I've made some mistakes. However, I've also done a few things right, and I want to share these steps with you. Note that my experience is coming from apartment living, but a few of these tips can be used wherever you live! Taking these steps has given me a solution to my issue, and I hope they'll help you with yours:
