I have been on a Buck Owens kick lately. I recently bought Dwight Yoakam's tribute album to Buck called "Dwight Sings Buck" and it has been playing constantly for weeks now. It really takes me back and reminds me how many great songs Buck recorded and there were a lot of them.
I admit it. I love country music from the 1960’s. I was raised on Waylon, Willie, Cash, Merle, Charley Pride and Buck Owens. Buck Owens was always a favorite of mine. I loved the sound of that guitar and Buck’s unmistakable vocal style. There was no doubt when you heard that Bakersfield sound that you were listening to Buck Owens.
One of the greatest things about growing up in my family were the vacations we would take. My dad would plan a trip for us every other year or so. We drove to California one year, Texas another year, took a trip to our nation's capitol, went to Florida and many more.
Music has always played a huge part in my life. I can remember my dad's huge stereo in the basement that was the size of a casket. I would sit downstairs and thumb through his records staring at the Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass album with the girl covered in whipped cream and then listening to all the Johnny Cash, Kenny Rogers and Buck Owens.
It was nine years ago today that country music legend Buck Owens passed away. The sound of Buck filled my house when I was growing up. I remember being a little boy standing on the picnic table in the backyard singing "I've Got a Tiger by the Tail" at the top of my lungs.
