Breast Cancer Awareness Month

To help support National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, country star Keith Urban is donating a customized Fender guitar to an auction benefiting the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation. Bidding for the guitar, which is black and adorned with a pink ribbon, will start at the end of October, after Urban has played it at each of this month’s shows.

According to the American Cancer Society, there are a few lifestyle choices that may affect a woman’s chances of getting breast cancer. Pregnancy reduces a woman’s total number of lifetime menstrual cycles, which may be protective against breast cancer. Women who have had their first child after the age of 30, or those how have not had children, are at higher risk.

National nonprofits and physicians’ organizations dedicate every October to the cause of breast cancer awareness — raising funds for research and helping ensure that all women are able to receive regular screenings.
