Under the latest COVID-19 rules instated by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), Colorado students will no longer be required to wear masks in schools upon returning to class this fall.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment made the latest changes to public health rules regarding COVID-19 last Wednesday, June 30; the order went into effect on Thursday (July 1), and will remain in effect until 12:01 a.m. on August 1 - unless extended, rescinded, superseded, or amended.

The city and county of Denver also made changes to its standing COVID-19 rules; as of July 1, children ages 11 and younger are no longer required to wear face coverings in any public place in the city. In addition, any organization that hosts events with more than 2,000 people no longer has to receive permission from the Denver Department of Public Health and Environment in order to move forward with their plans.

At this time, homeless shelters, prisons, jails and health care facilities are the only public settings where people who aren’t fully vaccinated are required to mask up.

However, everyone is still required to wear masks on public transit, as per federal rules, as well as in public hearings in Colorado courts.

Over the holiday weekend, Colorado reached a major milestone in regards to fighting the COVID-19 pandemic:

On July 3, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment shared via Twitter that 70% of adults in Colorado have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine - a goal that had been set by President Joe Biden - which was to vaccinate 70% of Americans age 18 and up by July 4.

“This is an exciting milestone for the people of our state, it is a testament to our resilience and united commitment in the fight against this deadly virus. The vaccine is a safe and effective way to protect ourselves and enjoy the life we love in Colorado,” Governor Jared Polis said in a news release.
