Heading to the mountains this weekend? That's easier said than done.

CDOT spokeswoman Presley Fowler told the Denver Post that 1-2 feet of snow are expected Thursday and Friday.

“Travel could be very difficult to impossible with safety closures and avalanche events likely,” CDOT said. “Winds will also cause wind chill temperatures well below zero.”

Three cars were stuck in a 3-foot-high snow drift early Thursday morning with snowy and icy conditions between Golden and Boulder, according to Denver Post.

Expect closures and if you must travel to the mountains, be sure to have an emergency kit in your car.
