Former Rocky Mountain High School phenom Marco Gonzales has emerged as the true ace of the Seattle Mariners.

The 28-year-old lefthander who pitched a 2-1 complete game victory on Monday (Aug. 31) is off to a career best start: He's 4-2 with a 3.09 ERA on the season so far.

Gonzales, who signed a four-year, $30 million extension in the offseason, has been a source of stability for the rebuilding Mariners. He leads the team with 43.2 innings pitched and Baseball-Reference metrics say he's been Seattle's most value player at 0.9 WAR (Wins Above Replacement).

The 2010 Rocky Mountain High School graduate collected 18 wins over three varsity seasons and 145.3 innings pitched for the Lobos, according to archive MaxPreps statistics.
