Places In Colorado That Used To Be Other Places

Isn't it funny how time works? You watch a restaurant or a store being built. Maybe you went to the grand opening to be the first one in line.

And then, as time goes on, your favorite place eventually becomes a bank.

Let's take a look at places that used to be other places.

Bennigans

The summer I worked at Bennigan's as a server, I gained 16 pounds because I ate at least 3 Monte Cristo sandwiches a shift. Nothing has ever touched me the way that deep-fried sandwich has. Not literally. That would be weird.

Bennigans in Fort Collins is now a dental office where people go to get cavities filled instead of eating fried food, and that just sucks. No shame to the dental community, but I prefer the desserts the size of my head to novocaine shots.

Around The Corner

This place was amazing, and I only wish my kids could have experienced it. I think about it a lot. Around the Corner was a 1950s-themed diner complete with phones in the booths for ordering and all your favorite diner food, like milkshakes and burgers.

It's a car dealership now.

Amigos

Oh man, I can still taste the cinnamon-dusted dessert offered at this all-but-forgotten jewel. The food was great, and the prices were low, so my poor family went there regularly.

I'm actually sadder that I'll never eat a taco from Amigos again than I am about being raised slightly above the poverty level.

Now it's a bank.

The Hamburger Stand

Located off College Avenue in Fort Collins, the Hamburger Stand offered 10-cent hamburgers on Tuesday. Again, I was poor, so this place was our savior. The food was delicious, and the staff was so friendly.

Now it's a cell phone store.
