Rangers Rescue Two Dogs at Devil’s Backbone Due to Extreme Heat

Dogs make the best adventure buddies, and with so many trails and open spaces in Colorado, it's always fun to bring them along on hikes or outdoor excursions.

However, when the temperature gets hot in the summer, it's sometimes best to leave your furry friends at home. Dogs don't handle heat the same way humans do, and have a difficult time cooling down. Because of this, heat exhaustion and dehydration can happen quickly, and can possibly be fatal.

Over the weekend, rangers at Devil's Backbone had two separate incidents in which they had to rescue dogs on the trail because of extreme heat.

Both dogs were brought down safely, but the rangers with Larimer County Natural Areas are encouraging the public to keep their dogs at home when temperatures reach the 90°s or above.
