One of Rocky Mountain National Park's most popular campgrounds will not be open this summer. In fact, the campsite will be closed for an entire year for a utility rehabilitation project according to the National Park Service.

Moraine Park Campground in Rocky Mountain National Park will be closed to all users through the early summer months of 2024 starting in late May 2023. The rehabilitation project at Moraine Park Campground will upgrade the systems for the water, wastewater, and electrical systems.

The facelift to the Moraine Park Campground will also improve drainage and move campsites at the campground that are prone to flooding out of the wetlands area. But wait, there's more. Improvements in accessibility to the campground, powerlines will be moved underground, the addition of electrical hookups to 60 RV campsites, rehabilitation of the ranger station, and replacement of the Moraine Park Campground entrance kiosk.

Moraine Park Campground is a year-round campground with 244 campsites. Many different types of campers use Moraine Park Campground. From tent campers to 40-foot RV campers.  The National Park Service says that more than 30,000 campers stay at Moraine Park Campground in Rocky Mountain National Park annually.

The Moraine Park Campground rehabilitation project is being funded by the Great American Outdoors Act. There are also many other elements that are being updated or revitalized within the Moraine Park Campground project. For more information, you can visit the National Park Service.
