The 16-year-old boy accused of assaulting a 71-year-old woman in Lefhand Canyon on Monday is still on the loose but has been identified.

According to the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, Jeffrey Collins has a warrant out for his arrest for Attempted First-Degree Murder and First-Degree Assault to an at-risk adult.

As we reported yesterday, Collins was hitchhiking with 2 other teens on Monday and were picked up by the elderly woman who allowed them to stay at her house until they could find another ride home. Collins allegedly suggested to his friends that they assault the woman and steal her car. His friends did not agree with the plan, but Collins attacked her anyway, unprovoked. The other teens ran to a neighboring residence to get help and report the assault.

The elderly woman was taken to the Intensive Care Unit at a nearby hospital with a significant head injury, multiple fractures, and lacerations, where she remains.

Collins took off in a white hatchback traveling west up Lefthand Canyon. He is still at-large and considered armed and dangerous.

While Collins is a juvenile, he will likely be charged as an adult in the case. Juvenile records are kept confidential, which is why his name and photo could not be released immediately. However upon court order, records including identifying information were able to be made public.

If you have information on Collins' whereabouts, please contact your local law enforcement agency or Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) where you can remain anonymous.
