
These Colorado Cities Could Fine You for Letting Your Cat Outside
I have indoor cats. They are a bit older and have no problem staying inside. I also feel anxious about allowing them to go outside since I live in a more agricultural area of Northern Colorado. They would not be safe from coyotes or any other predator.
They can not even defend themselves against a spider. This is personal preference. I had no idea that in some Northern Colorado cities, it is actually illegal to have outdoor cats.
It’s Illegal for Cats to Roam Freely in Fort Collins
In the city of Fort Collins, it is illegal to have your cat roam freely. Cats are allowed to be outside, but must be on a leash or in a catio. I grew up with cats that would go outside from time to time. If your cat likes to go outside and you live in Fort Collins, you might want to think twice.

Breaking this Northern Colorado Law Could Mean Fines—or Worse
This law has been in place since 2019, and if you do not follow the law, you could receive fines and risk having your pet taken away.
Loveland Also Bans Free-Roaming Outdoor Cats
Fort Collins is not the only Northern Colorado city that has a law against free-roaming cats. It is also illegal to have free-roaming cats in the city of Loveland.

These two Larimer County cities are the only ones in Northern Colorado that have a law against outdoor cats. Our advice? Just do your best to keep your cats inside.
