Experts Say Coloradans Shouldn’t Mow Lawns Until This Day in 2025
Grass is starting to grow once again in Colorado. Have you noticed that your lawn is looking a little bit longer these past few weeks? Just a week ago, I looked out in my backyard and started cleaning everything up for spring.
I noticed two things. I need to clean up after my dog more often and my grass is looking long already. I groaned as reality set in that I would have to start mowing my lawn soon.
Electric Lawnmower Struggle in Colorado
To be honest, I hate mowing my lawn. I am all for electric mowers, but it takes my battery three full charges to get the front and backyard done. It is extremely time-consuming.
I know what you’re thinking. Tanner, just go ahead and buy an additional battery.

Electric lawnmowers are now becoming the norm in Colorado. In 2024, a law was passed banning gas-powered lawnmowers on government property. That law is in effect for 2025.
When to Mow in Colorado
Experts say that you should mow your lawn when the temperature is consistently 40 degrees outside. They also say that when your grass grows two to three inches, it is time to mow.
Another expert says that you should mow your lawn in late April or early May for the best results.
Every lawn is different. If we were going to assign a specific day to start mowing your lawn, our advice would be to do your first mow on April 25. That is the weekend right after Easter.
