A Loveland man was killed on Monday (Sept. 20) after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the road.

According to reports from the Loveland Reporter-Herald, officers responded to the intersection of East 29th Street and North Garfield Avenue in Loveland on Monday night at 9:40 p.m. on reports of motor vehicle crash.

A caller reported that a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle, as per a news release from police.

Thompson Valley Emergency Medical Services responded to the incident; once on scene,  the victim was pronounced dead by health officials.

The Loveland Police Department's Technical Crash Investigation Team responded to investigate the incident.

Although his identity has yet to be released, police say the victim is a 64-year-old Loveland man. His name will be released by the Larimer County Coroner’s Office at a later date.

The Loveland Reporter-Herald said the driver involved in the collision was a young man, an 18-year-old Loveland resident driving eastbound on 29th Street in a Chevy Equinox.

As per an initial investigation into the incident, the victim was reportedly not using the crosswalk as he attempted to make his way across the road, while the vehicle that struck him was traveling legally with the right of way.

At this time, speed and alcohol are not being considered factors in the collision.
