A Northern Colorado brewery is brewing up something extra special in an effort to help the people of Ukraine.

Big Thompson Brewery in Loveland, CO is joining forces with 34 other breweries worldwide to brew a specially-made beer whose proceeds will go towards helping the people of Ukraine, who are in the midst of the ongoing war with Russia.

According to the Loveland Reporter-Herald, the specialty brew will be up for sale beginning early next month.

About Big Thompson Brewery's New Specialty Brew, Resolve

Resolve is an “open-source collaboration beer to recognize the determination of the Ukrainian people and to aid the humanitarian effort”, as per the initiative's official website.

Resolve has directly paired with two nonprofits that are directly supporting the crisis in Ukraine through direct aid:

  • The Global Empowerment Mission: GEM provides emergency aid inside Ukraine to the fighters and families that have stayed behind, as well as humanitarian aid to the women and children that are trying to cross the border into Poland
  • World Central Kitchen: Since the invasion of Ukraine, WCK’s Relief Team has been on the ground supporting families sheltering in the country as well as refugees arriving in Poland, Romania, Moldova, Hungary, and most recently, Spain. Cooking out of our own Relief Kitchen in Przemysl, Poland, and mobilizing a vast network of chefs and volunteers across all six countries, WCK provides nearly 200,000 hot, nourishing meals every day

The specialty beer was created by 42 North Brewing Company in East Aurora, NY; according to their website, the horrific events that have transpired through the war in Ukraine hit even closer to the brewing company, as their former brewer Naz Drebot remains in Ukraine with the resolve of millions of his countrymen.

Big Thompson Brewery in Loveland, along with Holiday Brewing in Golden, CO are the only Colorado breweries currently participating in the project.

According to the Loveland Reporter-Herald, Kurt Biegel, who owns the Loveland brewery with his wife Barb, said he had just recently learned of Resolve's project and the breweries that were a part of it and saw it as a great opportunity to help.

“The whole situation in Ukraine, we find it incredibly upsetting,” Bigel said, as per the Reporter-Herald.

“Something like this hasn’t really happened since the beginning of World War II, and we are dumbfounded this could be going on in Europe in 2022. We felt like if we could do something we should do something.”

The Big Thompson Brewery, located at 114 E. 15th St. in Loveland, is planning to hold an event to unveil and kick off Resolve beer sales - which will be available both on tap and canned in-house, on Saturday, June 4.
