Coach Prime and the CU Buffs receive votes in the AP Top 25 poll

Coach Prime has his CU Buffs 1-0 to start the 2026 season.

And at least a very small number of AP Top 25 voters are taking notice.

Colorado defeated Georgia Tech in dramatic fashion last Thursday night as Boo Carter blocked a field goal at the buzzer, preserving a 14-13 road victory.

That came moments after CU QB JuJu Lewis led a go-ahead touchdown drive, hooking up with tight end Charlie Williams with 42 seconds left for a score.

On Tuesday, the Buffs received three points in the newest AP Top 25. Technically that has them ranked as the 40th team in the country. For context, No. 1 Ohio State earned 1,684 points in the poll.

But some votes are better than no votes as Coach Prime and the Buffs scored a gritty victory that the nation could watch on ESPN.

CU ran for 183 yards while limiting Georgia Tech to only 51 yards. Winning the game in the trenches clearly caught a few people’s attention.

This coming Saturday, Colorado will host Weber State, which looks like a blowout on paper. Then it’s back-to-back road games at Northwestern and Baylor. Current No. 13 Texas Tech comes to Boulder on Oct. 3 before the bye week.

Without looking too far ahead, a 3-0 start with road wins at Georgia Tech and Northwestern could definitely have the Buffs in the AP Top 25. Get to 4-0 and they’d almost assuredly be ranked.

It’s very early, but it’s a lot more fun having these conversations than virtually anything that happened during a dreadful 2025 season for Coach Prime and his squad.
