Colorado has its share of memorable hotels. There’s the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, which helped inspire Stephen King’s The Shining, Denver’s historic Brown Palace, and the Hotel Jerome in Aspen, where celebrity guests have been part of the story for years.

But one of the state’s more unusual places to stay is tucked along a busy stretch of Colfax Avenue east of Denver. It doesn’t look particularly remarkable from the road. The experience inside, however, is a different story.

Mon Chalet in Aurora bills itself as “Colorado’s Finest Adult Resort”. It’s better known as a swingers’ motel than as a traditional overnight stop, and the property has its own set of rules for guests and visitors.

How Mon Chalet Works

Located at 12033 East Colfax Avenue, Mon Chalet offers both overnight stays and day access to its pool. According to the resort’s posted information and accounts from visitors, the pool is a central gathering spot. Day passes are available during the afternoon, generally from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The rules change in the evening. After the pool reopens from 5 p.m. until 5 a.m., access is limited to male-female couples and single women. Single men can enter if they have a room at the resort.

There are also ways for guests to signal what kind of social interaction they’re interested in. Colored wristbands help communicate those preferences, and even whether a room’s door or window is left open can carry a message.

A video review of Mon Chalet walks through some of the resort’s customs and what visitors might encounter. Fair warning: The experiences described are intended for adults and are not exactly family-friendly.

Mon Chalet also has a presence on Tripadvisor, where reviewers share their experiences at the property.
