Are These Five of Colorado’s Most Evil Mothers?
Colorado is no stranger to high-profile, shocking crime cases, but the popular YouTube channel Cold Case Time recently released a video detailing a specific type of criminal: mothers.
Colorado’s Most Evil Mothers: Alexus Nelson
One of the mothers profiled was Alexus Nelson, a woman who was convicted of not just killing her five-year-old son, but also trying to cover up the crime by telling those close to her that she’d put him up for adoption.

Nelson then attempted to hide the evidence by burning her deceased child’s body, parts of which were later discovered in her closet and fireplace. Nelson was convicted of second-degree murder and tampering with a body and was given 88 years in prison.
Colorado’s Most Evil Mothers: Mythia Latka
In January of 2023, Mytha Latka of Pueblo, Colorado, brought her then-two-year-old son to the hospital with severe injuries. The boy, who was a special needs child, unfortunately and tragically succumbed to his injuries.
It was later found that Latka was responsible and was convicted of child abuse resulting in death.
Colorado’s Most Evil Mothers: Kelly Murphy
In 2011, Castle Rock resident Kelly Murphy was entangled in a custody battle with the father of her two children. Unfortunately, Murphy committed the extreme act of smothering her nine-year-old son and six-year-old daughter in their beds to prevent her ex-husband from gaining custody.
Murphy was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder and is currently serving life in prison.
Colorado’s Most Evil Mothers: Kimberlee Singler
Kimberlee Singler of Colorado Springs, another mother involved in a custody battle, also murdered two of her children, who were nine and seven years old in 2023.
Fortunately, her attempt to murder her 11-year-old daughter was unsuccessful, and the girl told authorities what had happened.
Singler fled the country but was eventually extradited from the United Kingdom back to Colorado, where she awaits trial.
Colorado’s Most Evil Mothers: Alexus Nelson
In 2019, Stephanie Alvarado was a meth addict living in Rifle, Colorado, when tragedy struck as her then-five-year-old daughter drank water from a water bottle that was tainted with the drug. Afraid of getting in trouble with the law, Alvarado opted not to call the police for numerous hours, and the child unfortunately passed away.
