Study Finds Colorado One of the Best States for Work-Life Balance
As a state, Colorado is in an interesting position in that its workforce is composed of many different factors.
The state is full of hard-working blue collar jobs, like agriculture, but if you make your way to the cities you’ll find much more tech-based positions.
With that being said, Colorado’s job market is ever growing. Of all the jobs in Colorado, the fastest growing position in the state is actually for semiconductor processing technicians.
Semiconductors, which are used in chips and integrated circuits, have become widespread in modern technology, so it makes sense that the employment for technician positions has grown 67.6%.
With that being said, sometimes it doesn’t matter what you do for work when you can achieve a good work-life balance.
However, a recent study suggests Coloradans definitely seem to have it more figured out than the rest of the country.
Colorado Ranks 2nd in Country for Work-Life Balance
Recently, B2B Reviews created a study that took a look at multiple different factors to find which state has the best work-life balance.
They looked at things like the average commute, hours worked per week, and the percentage of remote workers amongst other things like each state’s maternity leave policy.
They then rate each category and give each state a final score.
Once everything was tabulated, Colorado was rated as the 2nd best state in the country for work-life balance.
Colorado does particularly well in multiple different categories. The state is 9th in average hours worked with 33.3 and 2nd in percentage of remote workers with 19.9%.
Another key factor is Colorado’s maternity leave policy. While many states allow for maternity leave, there’s many others that have no policies about it.
In Colorado, people are not only afforded guaranteed maternity leave, but also are given 12 weeks of pay as well for it.
This gives Colorado a final weighted score of 71.7.
What States Have the Best and Worst Work-Life Balance?
When it comes to the best state for work-life balance, Minnesota seems to absolutely take the cake.
Their average hours worked per week is down at 33.1, the fifth lowest in the study. Combine that with a low average commute time (23.3) and great average weekly earnings ($1,249.19) and you arrive at a high final score of 76.8.
In terms of the worst state for work-life balance, it comes down to a state that always seems to get the short end of the stick in such studies; West Virginia.
The combination of high hours worked per week (35.7), a low number of remote workers (8.3%), and the high rates of depression (27.5%) gives it a final score of 18.5.
