Last year, there were 94,000 traffic accidents, with 644 of them being fatal. Out of those fatal accidents, 659 people lost their lives.

According to Whalen Injury Lawyers, those numbers constitute a rise in traffic accidents and deaths compared to previous years.

The main reason why these accidents are happening more frequently is because people are driving more aggressively than ever, state officials say. . More distractions in the car do not help matters either.

However, another type of fatal traffic incident has been rising as well, and this one might be the most preventable of them all.

Pedestrian Accidents on Colorado Interstates and Highways Increase 72%

It’s common law that pedestrians are not allowed to cross or use highways or interstates, given that these are what are called “access-controlled roads”.

However, the amount of accidents and fatalities caused by pedestrians on these roads has increased a staggering amount this year.

According to the Denver Post, Colorado has seen a 72% rise in pedestrian related accidents on interstates and highways in a nine month period between 2023 and 2024.

As it would turn out, Interstate 25 is likely to have the highest number of these types of accidents.

Pedestrian Traffic Deaths Have Risen to Concerning Levels in Colorado

In 2023, Colorado saw a disturbing trend when it comes to pedestrian related traffic deaths.

Last year, the number of traffic deaths broke state records, with 131 pedestrians being killed

The previous record had been set in the year before, with 115.

Whether this has to do with distracted driving, driving under the influence, or overly aggressive drivers, that number must go down.

When it comes to the amount of pedestrian related accidents on interstates and highways, it is worth saying that you absolutely should not attempt to cross access-controlled roads.

Drivers are not expecting people to be using those roads, and the fact people will be going at higher speeds limits their reaction times.
