CDOT offers the following tips for anyone who plans on hosting a New Year's Eve party and plans on serving alcohol.

  • Collect car keys from your guests upon arrival, or encourage them to arrange for a designated sober driver, rideshare service, taxi, or public transportation.
  • If a guest has been drinking, call a friend or family member to pick them up, or offer them a place to stay if no sober ride is available.
  • Stop serving alcohol at least two hours before the party ends and provide plenty of food and non-alcoholic drink options.
  • If an intoxicated guest plans to drive, be firm and explain that you care about their safety and cannot allow them to drive.
  • Remember, as the host, you could be held legally responsible if a guest you serve alcohol to causes a crash.
