Windsor’s Downtown Parking Lot Dream Finally to Become a $4.5 Million Reality
For any small Colorado town to attract customers to its downtown district, one of the things they should take pride in is having good parking. For the Town of Windsor, that has been an issue for many, many, years.
Downtown Windsor Announces Official Plans for 'Backlot' Parking Lot
On March 12, 2026, I attended 'What's Brewing in Downtown' meeting put on by the Windsor Downtown Alliance. They hold these meeting every so often, to keep the public and Downtown businesses up to date on projects and happenings. At this particular meeting they were very excited to talk about the "Backlot" parking lot.

The "Backlot" is, currently, a gravel lot area between 4th and 5th Streets; an unorganized area that the public uses to access Downtown business and go to Boardwalk Park. The Downtown businesses, like Manweiller Appliance themselves, also use that area for parking/deliveries.
What Will the New 'Backlot' Parking Lot in Windsor Entail?
At the "What's Brewing" meeting, they announced that a $4.5 million project is set to begin in June of 2026, through the summer, installing a new paved parking lot. The lot will have 130 parking spaces, along with four Tesla charging stations. They'll be installing lights and cameras for safety, and putting in new water and sewer lines.
The Town of Windsor has been working on getting more people into downtown without them having to walk too far. While the experts said that people would be willing to walk three blocks for entertainment and food. a parking garage south of Main did not get much support, in 2022.
Maybe, after the Backlot is complete, and more people start coming into Downtown, the idea of a garage will seem more needed and feasible.
