I once put some cheap flooring down in a space that cost me a few hundred bucks which I thought was a pretty decent deal. Not sure how much it would have translated to for a few thousand square feet of retail space at Denver International Airport, but I can tell you precisely how much the flooring at Bodega DEN on Concourse C cost.

Exactly 266,000 pennies, plus some glue I would imagine.

That would be roughly $2,660. Again, not including the glue or labor.

One of the newest shops to hit DIA used more than a quarter million pennies to create their one of a kind floor for the store. Bodega DEN opened at the end of February and has been a "must stop" for people traveling in or out of Concourse C. Sure, you can get a magazine, snack or beverage... maybe one of those U-shaped travel pillows or a couple aspirin. But what people really go in there for is to see the floor.

Imagine being the person who had to meticulously lay out all 266,000 pennies to get them all to fit properly. You think setting 12x12 tiles is tedious... I can't even begin to fathom how sick that crew was of seeing the little copper coins after their first day on the job.

A strange material to use for flooring? Sure. The real question though is whether or not the people who laid it went through to make sure that each of them had that little "D" on them, signifying their were made at the Denver Mint.
