Dog Bite Awareness Month Raises New Concerns for USPS Workers
Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd. Wile E. Coyote and the Roadrunner. Dogs and Mailmen. All famous adversaries and especially so at the moment in Colorado, specifically in Denver.
Maybe Jerry and Newman would be a better comparison?
If you thought dogs biting mail delivery personnel for the USPS was somewhat folklore of the good old days before the Internet - turns out you would be wrong. It still happens. And in fact, in Denver, it happens a lot.
As Dog Bite Awareness Month kicks off June 1 - and I didn't even know that was a thing either - the USPS has released data on the number of dog bites their mail carriers have suffered in various cities and states last year.

More than 5,200 mail carriers were bitten by dogs in 2025 which in itself is kind of shocking, but Denver, of all places, ranks as the third highest city in America for carriers suffering bites.
Colorado as a state, thankfully, doesn't crack the top ten.
The USPS has released this data as a reminder for all of us out here with dogs to take what we all assumed was just a cliche more seriously. It does happen. And it happens a lot.
They ask all of us with pets to keep them secure during deliveries, not letting them roam the yard and making sure the door is closed behind us if we step out to greet the mail carrier.
You can check out more from the USPS directly for information on their Dog Bite Awareness Campaign, which kicks off June 1.
