Is This The Fastest Speeding Ticket Ever Recorded In Colorado?
Let's be clear up front: speeding is dangerous, illegal and we don't endorse it. Yeah, 5-10 MPH over the limit is a pretty common occurrence... even 15 or 20. But how about 113 MPH over the posted limit?
It's possible that this is the highest ever speeding ticket ever recorded in the state of Colorado, and it dates all the way back to 1990.
As told on social media, a man named Melvin Bernstein was driving a custom built motorcycle down Highway 94 near Ellicott - which is just east of Colorado Springs. He was testing the motorcycle out and wanted to see what it could do. After his test, he pulled over and stopped to put the bike back on a trailer.
At that point, the cops pulled up and told him they clocked him at a whopping 168 MPH in a 55 MPH zone.
Bernstein claims he fought the ticket in court and actually won, not having to pay the fines associated with it.
The Colorado State Patrol says that the top five Colorado counties for speeding violations in 2023 were, in order, El Paso, Jefferson, Weld, Mesa and Eagle counties. Weld County makes sense... lots of wide open state highways around these parts!
They also report that the five most ticketed roads in the state are I-70, I-25, Highway 50, Highway 24 and Highway 285, respectively.
