Most of us know a veteran. They are not just gray-haired men wearing a black "veteran" baseball cap. Veterans are young and old, men and women. A "veteran" is "a person who served in the active military, naval, or air service, and who was discharged or released therefrom under conditions other than dishonorable" according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Last year The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs reported the Colorado veteran population at 387,618. About 20,000 veterans are living in Larimer County according to Stacker.

There is no doubt we need to do all we can to take care of our Veterans.

Mission Roll Call says there are 6 main problems facing our veterans:

  1. Difficulties Transitioning From Active Duty to Civilian Life
  2. Experiencing PTS and Gaps in Mental Health Support
  3. Missing the Camaraderie, Community, and Purpose Found While Serving
  4. Navigating VA Bureaucracy for Access to Benefits
  5. Lack of Proper Transportation for Disabled Veterans
  6. Being Confronted with Veteran Stereotypes in Entertainment and Civilian Life

On Tuesday, August 15, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. there is a one-day wellness summit for veterans, caretakers, family members, and veterans service providers happening at the Lincoln Center in Fort Collins. The event will focus on providing a forum for participants to connect and share resources in support of veteran well-being.

There is a lunch provided by The Snack Attack which happens to be a local Veteran-owned business. There will be service providers with a focus on mental well-being, effective intervention, and sustainable, enjoyable, self-tending activities.

The event is free to attend, lunch will be provided to those registered at www.bit.ly/veterans2023.
