Local Colorado Sheriff’s Office Welcomes New K-9 officer ‘Odin’
Just about everyone in Colorado would agree that dogs are great, and indeed are "man's best friend;" when one is trained to become a K-9 officer, those dogs become very revered.
The Larimer County Sheriff's Office officially welcomed its latest K-9 officer to the team in October of 2024. Odin joins a long list of K9s that have served the force over the decades, all of which have served the community nobly.
Odin has had a long journey to his position helping the Larimer County community.
Larimer County Sheriff's Office in Colorado Welcomes New K-9
Surprisingly (or coincidentally) Odin comes to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office via Denver - Denver, Indiana that would be. How many of us know of Denver, Indiana?
Odin, however, was bornin in Poland in 2022. He's a Belgian Malinois; which are similar to German Sheppards.
From the American Kennel Club:
'Mals' are still prized as herders of all kinds of stock, but their versatility and high work-drive have opened careers in many other occupations and activities. They are highly sought after as police and military K-9s.
Odin and Deputy Were Teamed Up in Spring of 2024
Larimer County Sherriff's Office (LCSO) Deputy Joe Boyle (who joined the force in 2017) traveled to Denver, Indiana where Odin was being trained to become a working dog; the two came back to Colorado to begin the rigorous training at LCOS K9 Academy along with becoming better bonded, in April of 2024.
