Car Crashes Into Fort Collins House And Causes Huge Fire
There's rude awakenings - as in the expression - then there's REALLY rude awakenings. Such is the case for the latter at a Fort Collins resident was forced to call 911 one early morning a couple weeks ago about a car that had crashed through their house and landed in the home's living room, before eventually bursting into flames.
The house on Evergreen Drive in Fort Collins was lost as a driver who was ultimately arrested for careless driving and driving under the influence smashed through a brick wall and into the living space of the house, just moments after the residents had gone to bed for the evening.
Everyone inside the house came down to see what the ruckus was about and found it pretty surreal to see a car in the living room they had just left to go to bed, but all managed to escape.
The residents reported seeing the car catch fire and quickly spread, forcing them to evacuate, but not before helping the driver out of the car through smoke and rubble around the vehicle. Because the car was blocking the exit, they had to punch out a couple of windows and some ended up climbing over the car before the flames spread.
Poudre Fire Authority responded and put out the blaze, but not before it had destroyed the interior of the home and all of the residents' belongings inside it. Seeing as the residents were all students of CSU, they have much to replace and several of their families and friends have started GoFundMe campaigns to help them back on their feet.
