It was back to a late winter early spring day this past Saturday. But my husband and I decided to head to Crested Butte. I was amazed at how much snow was still on the mountains from Black Canyon National Park to Gunnison on US 50.

The snow-capped mountains were beautiful. We last traveled to Gunnison in the winter a few years back. At that time people were ice fishing, which does look interesting, minus the cold. In case you may be wondering if you live on the western slope. They are still working on the road to Gunnison. There was not as much gravel on the stretch of road as last fall, which is good news.

From Gunnison to Crested Butte the ride was so beautiful. It was shoulder season in Crested Butte, so some places weren't open. We had lunch at Secret Stash, it's an awesome pizza place. The air was crisp, I still browsed around downtown. Crested Butte is quite picturesque any time of year. The mountains are fabulous. If I had planned better, I would have loved to have stayed the night too.

Heading home, a stop in Gunnison was fun too. There are some great restaurants one of my favorites is the Dive, and don't miss Alpine Brewing. Great service, and awesome beer. It was a gorgeous day, I can't say it enough, the beauty is endless in Colorado. I will miss it one day, but not today.
