It really is amazing how quickly they have done it, but according to the Colorado Department of Transportation, U.S. 34 between Loveland and Estes Park will reopen on Thursday, November 21st. The Governor's goal was to have the highway open by December 1st, but crews have worked day and night to finish more than a week ahead of schedule.

Gov. John Hickenlooper will join the transportation department, Estes Park and Loveland officials to mark the official opening of Highway 34.  It was closed two months ago due to massive flooding in the Big Thompson Canyon that destroyed much of the road.

The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday.  Crews will paint the final stripes on U.S. 34 to officially mark the completion of the temporary repairs and the opening of the highway. U.S. 34 is paved the whole way through the canyon, with one lane open in each direction.
