It’s so dry in Northern Colorado. Brown, crispy grass everywhere. I know this because my dog brings it into the house after every bathroom break outside. It’s glorious. It’s hard to believe that in Colorado we’ve only had a handful of snowstorms and even less rain. What does this mean for summer in Northern Colorado?

Current Northern Colorado Water Restrictions

  • The good news is if you water your lawn more than 3 days a week you won't get fined...yet
  • Residents are being encouraged to be conservative when watering
  • Northern Colorado should brace for at least Stage one restrictions

Possible (most likely) Upcoming Water Restrictions in Northern Colorado

  • In Northern Colorado watering your lawn is only allowed 2-3 days a week of watering
  • No watering during the day especially from 10-6
  • Water your lawn only early in the morning or late at night
  • Spraying down driveways and sidewalks will be a big no no

Expect strict rules coming our way sooner rather than later. Due to a season of low snowpack and almost zero moisture, unless there’s a miraculous weather event, the odds are high things will stay brown and crispy all summer long. Boooooo

It’s a bummer, for sure. But you know what’s even more of a bummer? Fires. And a few years ago, we had some real whoppers. Back in 2020, Northern Colorado saw an absolute disaster due to the Cameron Peak Fire. Things were pretty scary for a while, so the idea of watering my lawn less isn’t really that bad when you think about it.

So let's all come together as a community and keep Colorado fire free in 2026!
