The history of recorded country music had it's first chapter written on this date in 1922. We have been enjoying country albums, tapes, Cd's, downloads and all other ways to get music for 94 years but the very first country recording happened in New York City, believe it or not. We think of Nashville as the home of country but it was birthed in a recording studio in the Big Apple.

A couple of fiddle players named Eck Robertson and Henry Gilliland holed up in a studio and recorded a song called "Arkansas Traveler" and history was made. The likes of Bill Monroe and all the other history makers would follow the trail that these two blazed that day. Here is that first recording from 1922. Happy birthday recorded country music.
