The Greeley Police Department (GPD) is searching for a man accused of first-degree murder.

According to a press release from GPD, the homicide took place on Tuesday (Nov. 30), when officers were notified about a stabbing in progress at an apartment in the 900 block of 52nd Avenue Court.

Upon arrival, police discovered a 27-year-old male suffering from multiple stab wounds. Authorities transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Detectives determined that the murder suspect is 22-year-old Jonathan Mikel Islas, who is wanted for murder in the first degree and tampering with evidence. He fled the scene on foot and is currently at large.

Islas weighs 135 pounds and is 5 feet 6 inches tall. He has black hair and brown eyes. Because police suspect that Islas targeted the victim, they do not believe he is a danger to the public; however, he is considered armed and dangerous. If you spot him, avoid him and call 911 immediately.

The Weld County Coroner will identify the victim after his next-of-kin are notified of his death. No further information is available at this time.
