On July 31, the Pine Gulch fire began with a single strike of lightning, and as of Sunday, August 9, had spread over 37 square miles.
Many as far north as Fort Collins are noticing the haze, and some in Northern Colorado are even being called to the front lines to fight it.

The Greeley Fire Department has sent their Greeley Brush 1 crew of three firefighters to the Pine Gulch Fire to help Grand Junction crews fight the flames. According to a Facebook post, these heroes will be deployed for up to 14 days.
