Parents, would you like your child to become a world famous rock star? Get that kid a guitar and move to Fort Collins.

Based on the number of available music lessons for each child in over 100 metropolitan areas across the country, Fort Collins finished fifth on the list, ahead of Boulder (11th), Colorado Springs (20th) and Denver, Colorado (65th).

Although Fort Collins has yet to produce any "major" rock stars, the area is a fertile ground for music and the arts.

In addition to lessons and instructions, Fort Collins also has many venues for up-and-coming artists and a growing music scene fueled by students and young people.

While they might not be considered rock stars, there are also many reputable musicians that call Fort Collins home.

Bill Stevenson is a punk rock legend and longtime drummer for the Descendants. He's also produced several records at his Fort Collins-based studio "The  Blasting Room," including albums by Rise Against and NOFX.

FoCo native Derek Smith is a renowned electronic music producer, working under the name Pretty Lights.

Folk artist Katie Herzig has released several critically acclaimed albums over her 20-year career.

One of the area's longest running acts is the genre-bending collective Biota, which has been active since the late '70s.

Fort Collins is also home to Joy Davidson, who was considered among the best opera singers in the world during a career that spanned over three decades.

Could the next rock and roll icon be honing their chops in Northern Colorado right now?

Gainesville, Florida, home to many legendary artists including Bo Diddley, Tom Petty, Stephen Stills and Don Felder, was ranked first on the list of best cities for future rock stars.

Tallahassee, Florida, Ann Arbor, Michigan, Athens, Georgia and Fort Collins rounded out the top five cities in the study.
