It appears as though former neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson is working towards a possible run for the Oval office as a conservative for the Tea Party.  Is this what the country needs?

It was soon after making a widely publicized speech at the 2013 National Prayer Breakfast, Dr. Ben Carson overnight became a popular conservative figure in political media for his views on social and political issues.

I know I have heard many, including myself, that politicians are just killing politics and perhaps we need to get back to our roots where early Presidents weren't necessarily politicians. I think we can all agree those most in Washington wouldn't have a clue how "we the people" actually need and what's best for us.

So, maybe a guy like Carson is what this country needs? I for one am just sick of seeing career politicians in the Oval office who think they know what's best for me when all they really care about are themselves. Dr. Ben Carson has already raised over $13 million and tested well in recent polls up against Mitt Romney and Jeb Bush. (Romney announced late January he would not be running again.)

I'm not endorsing Carson by any stretch; I'm endorsing the idea of a common man, or woman, giving it a try. Like they could do worse? We need a business minded person with common sense...not a career politician.

I think it's imminently possible. There are dozens of people who spent their whole lives in politics, who I'm sure many people would not want to be in that position. The fact of the matter is, I think what the American people are looking for is somebody who understands that the people are at the pinnacle. And the government should respond to the people, someone who understands the Constitution thoroughly - Dr. Ben Carson

Here are a few of his life achievements:

  • He is the first surgeon to successfully separate conjoined twins joined at the head
  • Awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush in 2008
  • Offered a West Point scholarship
  • Graduated from Yale University
  • Awarded 38 honorary doctorate degrees and dozens of national merit citations
  • In 2014, Carson ranked 6th on Gallup's list of the most admired men in the world
